Snow Day

a quick poem before the day takes hold

The little one
still asks to wear the Kamala Harris
t-shirt and converse
her little voice
not understanding why I have to say no

the laces have come off the converse
but that’s how she likes to wear them
shuffling around
Kamala Harris Kamala Harris 
she won’t let us
forget.

There won’t be time to
rage
today—
there’s a sick kid and snow
we can’t play in
and the way our home feels
small
when we’re in it for too many hours in a row

But maybe today
it’s okay to be here
the scrape of shovels on the sidewalk so
loud
the murmur-growl of snow plows
relentless
the snow
so soon
turning
surely
grey-brown or
too icy

it was nice to watch it fall, anyway
it’s always nice
to see the world
the way you wish it could be
covered in 
wonder
